3 strand Swarovski bracelets

These 3 strand crystal bracelets are part of the A Silver Affair order. There were some initial snafus...like using 6mm crystals and having them be too large for the separation pieces. That mistake causes a strange bowing of the strands, so they needed to be dismantled and reworked using 4mm crystals. Not a difficult switch, just time consuming.

The Memorial day weekend projects: finish the last 3 bracelets and complete the Czech glass earrings and pendants.

The non-jewelry Memorial day project: Create a bulletin board with Anna's ribbons from her horse show and some pictures taken over this riding season.

My necklaces in Michigan

I brought some necklaces and earring to work around Hanukkah last year and a coworker purchased one for her mother. It is rather simple - a cloisonne Jewish star on a beaded necklace. The colors on the pendant are vibrant; it is not a meek necklace. It is the type of necklace you wear to be noticed and this woman is. Everywhere she goes (in Michigan!) people comment on this necklace and ask where she got it. I need a website to put on a business card for orders...

Elaine has a picture of her mom in the necklace. I asked her to email it to me so that I can post it.

But the conversation got me thinking...it is so interesting to think that a piece of jewelry that I made in NC now lives in Michigan. I may get a map of the US and start putting pushpins in the states I know hold a piece of something I made.

My first blog

I find myself fascinated by reading blogs. Cooking blogs, gluten-free blogs, yoga blogs, photography blogs...the quick snapshot into someone else's life satisfies some part of my psyche that enjoys eavesdropping.

Coming up with a name was difficult. My name is pretty run-of-the-mill. My nickname (that only my father uses) is not and so that became the first part - Deedle. Deedle is actually a corruption of how my little brother mangled my name when he was first learning to talk. My little brother, who is now taller than I am and in his 3rd year of medical school, came up with "Deedee" in lieu of "Melissa". This morphed into "Dee-Day", "Mih-mah" and finally "Melissa". My dad never quite progressed this far and will still call me "Deedle". I tried nicknaming him "Daddle" in an effort to show him that it is not always a good thing to have a nickname, but he has embraced his...making us Deedle and Daddle.

As far as the design part: I work in the medical field and I have a passion for helping others. But, in my free time I decorate cakes, design jewelry, and adore cooking. I became gluten free in 2008 and am still learning how to eat for the best results. I slip up every now and again, but pick myself up and move forward. I've been beading and designing jewelry since 2007. My first real order came in and I was just so thrilled to receive it...and then realized I really had to make 90 pairs of earrings! Again, I'm learning along the way.

So, blogging is something new and I will attempt to learn along the way.
